The Port Moresby Medical Service has an excellent reputation for patient-centred medical services.Primary Health Care and Preventative Medicine are our objectives. We aim to achieve this by providing highly skilled and competent Medical Practitioners and support staff backed up by a modern and up-to-date facility. Our aim has always been and will always be to provide swift and efficient patient-centred services. Port Moresby Medical Service is located at East Boroko, in the City of Port Moresby, at the corner of Vaivai Avenue and Mavaru Street. It was established in 1985 by Dr Stephen Webb, one of Port Moresby's most prominent General Practitioners. Facilities on premises consist of, amongst others, a reception area capable of good sitting, four private consultation rooms, a minor operating theatre, a pathology room, a radiology room, a pharmacy, a single delivery room, three-bed observation out-patient and seven single rooms equipped with telephone and one executive en suite in-patient ward. Parking facilities are available with security on the premises. | The services that we provide are detailed under the services tab. In essence, the services include General Practice, Specialist Practice, Maternity, Minor Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, Pharmaceutical, and various medical Examinations. These services are managed by the Administration staff consisting of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and an Office Manager with fully computerized Accounting, Appointment, Pathology and Clinical sections. In addition, an in-house Computer Support Specialist manages our IT section. Our aim has always been and will always be to provide swift and efficient patient-centred services. Whilst we do all we can to assist our patients, we also have an excellent referral system between Port Moresby General Hospital, Cairns Private Hospital, Brisbane, Singapore and the Philippines for Specialist support services. Our current team of professional staff includes two full-time Medical Practitioners and part-time visiting Specialists. Our full-time Medical Practitioners include Dr A. Chelvanathan and Dr A. Laup. Dr Chelvanathans' qualification includes Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioner, Fellow of the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine, Fellow of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine, Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine, Master's in Aerospace Medicine and Medical Review Officer. Furthermore, Dr Chelvanathan is an approved Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) for Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. Apart from Medicine, he holds a Pilot license for Papua New Guinea and Australia and a Post Graduate Aviation Management Certificate. He is also a Hyperbaric and a Diving practitioner. |
